Session 1 SMART data - Gerry McCloughlan (NSW DEC) In this workshop you will learn how to lead your team in using SMART data to increase student achievement and performance. Using MyPL@Edu to register and schedule professional learning - Carolyn McGinty (NSW DEC) In this workshop you will learn how to register school-based professional learning sessions onto MyPL. This will be particularly relevant for schools with teachers who need to apply or maintain accreditation with the NSW Institute of Teachers. Getting started with project based learning - Alice Leung (Merrylands High School) - FULL In this workshop you will learn about the learning benefits of project based learning, how to design and implement project based learning in a high school environment as well as leading your team to implement project based learning. DEC support for Australian Curriculum - NSW DEC - FULL In this workshop you will learn about changes within the Australian Curriculum for science and maths in year 7-10 and teaching ideas to cater for the 21st century learner, You will also explore different aspects of the new syllabus so that you can lead you can deepen your knowledge of the new content and pedagogy for teaching secondary students. You will also find out about new resources and courses to support you and your team in implementing the Australian Curriculum. Creating differentiated learning pathways for students - Rowan Kunz (myEd Online) Research by Melbourne University’s Graduate School of Education has highlighted that to improve student performance clinical teaching practice is critical, whereby teachers individualize learning for specific students & use data to inform instruction. At myEd we are working on web application to enable the creation of differentiated learning pathways for students with real-time data analytics to inform ongoing instruction & are looking to work with teachers to co-create ongoing development. This workshop will involve an overview of the beta application, feedback on ongoing development & an exploration of clinical teaching practice and your needs in the classroom around data and differentiation. Australian Curriculum (Maths) with Oxford Press This presentation will discuss the development of scope and sequence documents and teaching and learning programs for stage 4 and 5 within the NSW syllabus as it relates to the Australian Curriculum. There will be a particular focus on stage 5 and the multiple exit points of pathways 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3. Part of the presentation will include some suggestions to assist with the volume of content particularly in pathway 5.3. There will be examples of programming for the Mathematics General course as well. Some resources will be demonstrated. All participants will receive a free copy of Oxford Insight Mathematics Australian Curriculum - Year 9 Stages 5.2/5.3 upon publication. Accreditation Matters - NSW Board of Studies The NSW Institute of Teachers will provide updates on accreditation, particularly on accreditation at higher levels beyond professional competence. Texas Instruments maths workshop - Using technology to unlock the link between arithmetic and algebra In this workshop you will learn how to use technology to help students make the link between arithmetic and algebra. iPads will be supplied to you in this session where you will use apps to explore processes and algebraic approaches including graphical interpretations of linear manipulations. Session 3 Key points for aspiring head teachers Are you thinking of being a head teacher some time in the future? A panel of current head teachers will share with you their experiences in being head teachers with opportunities for you to ask questions. Key points for aspiring deputy principals Are you thinking of being a deputy principal some time in the future? A panel of current deputy principals will share with you their experiences in being head teachers with opportunities for you to ask questions. Leading teams Executive and senior executive teachers from Rooty Hill High School will showcase successful strategies and initiatives that has allowed them to strengthen their school and faculty teams in leading and empowering change. Embedding the General Capabilities in Maths - Martin James (AITSL) The Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) will show you how to lead your team in designing learning that meaningfully embeds the general capabilities in Maths as part of 21st century learning. New grading and credentialing requirements from NSW Board of Studies - NSW Board of Studies The NSW Board of Studies will explain the new grading and credentialing requirements for RoSA. It will allow head teachers to understand what their responsibilities are as curriculum leaders. Integrating Technology from Keepad Interactive Keepad Interactive is a leader in providing engaging and interactive solutions to education sectors. In this workshop participants will get hands on experience in a range of technology to engage students in science and and maths. |

In this hands on workshop you will learn how to use Google apps to lead your team and students in changing and improving the way you learn, work and collaborate. Field of Mars excursion opportunities - NSW DEC Field of Mars is a DEC environmental education centre. In this workshop you will learn about the outdoor education opportunities available for your students to support their learning in the current and new syllabuses. Empowering staff with peer coaching - Melissa Sharman (Blacktown Boys High School) Looking for a way to develop capacity in your staff? For a way to build confidence and a sense of personal ownership? The Peer Coaching model can help to do this! The workshop will provide an introduction to the principles and methods of Peer Coaching, focusing on how to help others “GROW” through the way we support colleagues in all aspects of school life. Texas instruments workshop - iPads in the science classroom In this hands on session, participants will be supplied with iPads to explore apps designed for all year levels. These apps are designed to further enhance students' understanding of science, including interactive periodic tables and how to write chemical equations. MoneySmart MoneySmart Teaching is a comprehensive strategy to develop consumer and financial literacy capabilities in young Australians. The strategy builds teacher capacity, both professionally and personally, enabling them to teach young people (K-10) about money. The units of work are aligned to NSW syllabuses and the Australian Curriculum. All participants will receive a hard copy of the teaching package. Session 5 Key points for aspiring head teachers This is a repeat workshop from Friday Virtual experiments - Bill Matchett (Westfield Sports High School) - FULL Find out how your students can perform experiments that are not possible to do in the classroom through technology.
